Color from light blue to a deeper blue. The richer to color the more cost of the gem per carat. The name is Latin for sea water, which describes the color. This stone is a member of the Beryl family. The Birthstone for November and the 13th Anniversary Stone. A member of the quartz family. The name Citrine came from the French Citrine for lemon. Color from Medium Yellow to Dark Yellow and on the Root Beer. Sources are in Brazil, Bolivia and Madagascar. Care: Citrine may be cleaned in an ultrasonic cleaner but not a steam cleaner.

Emerald

The Birthstone for May and the 25th & 30th Anniversary Stone. Emerald’s were first mined in Egypt near the Red Sea. Sources today are Columbia, Africa and Brazil. This stone is a member of the Beryl family. The name is taken from the Greek smarados, meaning Green Stone. Stones may be bluish green to total green hues. Too much yellow or blue may indicate another type of Beryl stone. These stones are very easy to chip so they are normally treated to help that problem. Care:Do not clean in an ultrasonic or steam cleaner.

Garnet

The Birthstone for January and the 2nd Anniversary Stone. The Latin word for Garnet, Grantum, means pomegranate, with the thought that the stone reminded people of the seed of the fruit. There are several varieties of Garnet. Garnets are available in all colors except pure blue. Tsavorite is one of the newest established Garnet varieties. Care: You may clean a garnet in an ultrasonic or steam cleaner. Rhodolite Garnet is in our 1st Garnet Picture. Gem was discovered in North Carolina. Not as dark as some of the Pyrope Garnets. Normally are found in Africa. Prices based on color, clarify and size. Green Tsavorite Garnet in our 2nd Garnet Picture, named after the Tsavo National Park in Kenya. This stone was discovered by Henry Platt, president of Tiffany & Co.. A tougher, more durable stone with high luster. Shades may be found from Green to Yellowish Green. A collectors gemstone due to its beauty. Hessonite Garnets in our 3rd Garnet Picture, are available in red, red-orange and yellow. The red is often called “Cinnamon Stone” because it matches the color of cinnamon oil in Ceylon. We also find this stone in Cananda, USA, Brazil and Africa.

Iolite is also called the “Water Sapphire” when the color is not very intense. This is the 21st Anniversary Stone. Varies from deep blue to violet blue. May be found in Brazil, India, Burma, Finland. Nambia and Norway. This stone is cut to maximize the color. It is often confused with sapphire or tanzanite. Care: This stone should not be cleaned in an ultrasonic or steam cleaner.

The Birthstone for August and 16th Anniversary Stone. Pronounced (pear-uh-doe) comes from the Greek word peridona, meaning provide plentifully. A member of the Olivine mineral group. It is produced in the USA in Phoenix, Arizona. Burmese and Pakistan also produce this stone. Care: Do not clean these stones in ultrasonic or steam cleaners.

The Birthstone for July, and the 15th and 40th Anniversary Stone. Ruby is one of the most noted symbols of Love! Historically Ruby refers to the Red Stone and some debate over the pink Sapphire being a lighter shade of the Ruby. Pink Sapphire is just a lighter shade of the ruby stone but is not as expensive as the Red Ruby. Either are beautiful! Care: You may clean your ruby in an ultrasonic cleaner but not a steam cleaner.

Natural Topaz comes in several different colors including clean, blue, pink, yellow and orange. Mined in Brazil, Mexico, Africa and China. These stones are very outstanding and come in vast array of colors. Blue Topaz is the most popular color, with London Blue (deep blue hues) Swiss Blue Topaz and Maxi Blue Topaz.
